Job description
Overview
We are seeking a motivated Mid-Level Node.js Developer to join our backend engineering team and help build scalable, reliable server-side services that power our products. In this role you will design, implement, and maintain APIs and microservices, collaborate closely with frontend engineers and product stakeholders, and contribute to technical decisions that improve performance, security, and developer productivity.
You will have ownership of features from design through deployment and monitoring, help shape best practices for testing and observability, and mentor more junior engineers. This is a full-time position ideal for a developer with ~3 years of hands-on Node.js experience who thrives in a collaborative, product-focused environment.
Responsibilities
• Design, implement, and maintain backend services and RESTful/GraphQL APIs using Node.js and associated frameworks (e.g., Express, Koa).
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code (unit, integration, and API tests) and take part in code reviews to uphold code quality standards.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and designers to translate requirements into technical designs and prioritize deliverables.
• Integrate with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) and design efficient data models and queries.
• Implement authentication, authorization, and security best practices to protect user data and backend services.
• Optimize application performance, troubleshoot production issues, and participate in on-call rotation as needed.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, support automated deployments, and help containerize services using Docker.
• Contribute to architecture discussions, propose improvements to system reliability and scalability, and document implementation details.
• Monitor service health, configure logging and observability tools, and respond to incidents to minimize downtime.
• Mentor junior developers, share knowledge, and promote engineering best practices across the team.
Qualifications
• 3+ years of professional experience developing backend applications with Node.js.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+) and familiarity with TypeScript or willingness to adopt it.
• Practical experience with a Node.js framework such as Express or Koa and building RESTful or GraphQL APIs.
• Experience working with SQL and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) and writing efficient queries.
• Good understanding of asynchronous programming, event-driven architecture, and performance optimization techniques.
• Experience with testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Mocha) and writing unit/integration tests.
• Familiarity with version control using Git and experience setting up or using CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI).
• Experience containerizing applications with Docker and basic knowledge of orchestration (Kubernetes is a plus).
• Knowledge of security best practices for web applications, including authentication, authorization, input validation, and secure data handling.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, a proactive problem-solving attitude, and ability to work in a cross-functional team.
