Job description
Overview
We are seeking a driven Mid-Level Robotics Engineer to join our NextGen Robotics team and help design, build, and deploy advanced robotic systems. In this role you will move projects from concept to production — working across perception, control, software, and hardware integration — to deliver reliable, scalable robotic solutions that directly impact product capabilities and customer outcomes.
You will join a cross-functional engineering team focused on innovation and rapid iteration. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving real-world challenges, collaborating with product and hardware teams, and improving robots through testing, simulation, and data-driven refinement.
Responsibilities
• Design, implement, and test software and algorithms for robotic systems including perception, localization, planning, and control.
• Develop and maintain code in C++ and Python, and integrate modules using ROS/ROS2 and other middleware.
• Integrate sensors (LiDAR, cameras, IMUs, encoders) and work on sensor fusion and calibration pipelines.
• Build and run simulations (Gazebo, PyBullet, Webots) to validate behaviors before hardware testing.
• Perform on-hardware testing, debugging, and performance tuning; produce clear test plans and reports.
• Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and product teams to ensure manufacturability and operational reliability.
• Write and maintain automated tests, CI pipelines, and maintainable documentation for reproducible deployments.
• Troubleshoot field issues, analyze data logs, and iterate on algorithms and system design to improve robustness.
• Mentor junior engineers and share best practices for software engineering, safety, and robotics development.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
• 2+ years of professional experience developing robotics systems, algorithms, or embedded software (mid-level).
• Proficiency with ROS or ROS2, and experience integrating nodes, topics, services, and action interfaces.
• Strong programming skills in C++ and Python, with experience in testing and code review workflows.
• Experience with sensors (camera, LiDAR, IMU) and perception techniques such as object detection, SLAM, or sensor fusion.
• Familiarity with control theory and implementation of motion controllers (PID, MPC, state estimators).
• Experience with simulation tools (Gazebo, PyBullet, or equivalent) and model-based validation.
• Comfort working in Linux environments, using version control (Git), and debugging on embedded / edge platforms.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
• Willingness to participate in lab/hardware testing and occasional travel to test sites as needed.
