Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated Mid-Level Mechanical Design Engineer to join our product development team and drive the design and delivery of innovative mechanical systems and components. In this role you will take concepts through detailed design, prototyping, validation, and handoff to manufacturing—helping bring high-quality products to market on-time and within cost targets.
You will collaborate cross-functionally with electrical engineers, manufacturing, supply chain, and test engineers to solve complex mechanical challenges. This is a full-time position for a hands-on engineer with strong CAD and analysis skills, a practical understanding of manufacturing processes, and a passion for creating robust, manufacturable designs.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings to CAD standards for components, assemblies, and mechanisms.
• Perform engineering analyses (FEA, stress, thermal, tolerance stacks) to validate designs and iterate for performance and reliability.
• Define materials, finishes, fasteners, and critical tolerances; apply GD&T to ensure manufacturability and interchangeability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, test, manufacturing, supply chain) to integrate mechanical designs into final products.
• Lead prototype build efforts, support assembly and lab testing, troubleshoot failures, and implement design improvements.
• Create and maintain bill of materials (BOM), release engineering drawings and CAD data via PDM/PLM systems.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFMA) principles to reduce cost, simplify assembly, and improve quality.
• Support suppliers and manufacturing partners with technical drawings, design clarifications, and launch support.
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments (DFMEA), and document design decisions and test results.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and standards.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Approximately 3–6 years of hands-on mechanical design experience (mid-level).
• Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or equivalent) with a strong portfolio of parts and assemblies.
• Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or similar) and applying analysis results to design changes.
• Solid understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and dimensioning for manufacturing.
• Proven experience with DFM/DFMA, BOM creation, and PDM/PLM systems.
• Practical experience with common manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, injection molding, casting) and material selection.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
• Preferred: experience with prototyping techniques, test equipment, robotics/automation, and knowledge of industry standards (ASME, ISO).
Responsibilities
